Impressive canvas – Aderant office design by Samantha Ebel-Brown

"The premises are designed to establish a background or canvas that allows for an evolving brand, while maintaining a company culture." said designer Samantha Ebel-Brown of the ideal concept in configuring the featured office, as successful furniture shop in Cambodia construction materials informed.

"Shades of green and cream create a soothing office environment. These soft shades are accented by a shot of red throughout the interior that is designed to evoke the color of pohutakawa blooms."

The office achieves many common rooms. However, the break-out room was the masterpiece with a sense of arrival and welcoming for both clients and workers. "The break-out area was designed after much consultation. We wanted to create a space in which everyone would feel comfortable," added Ebel-Brown.

Homey ambience - Southern Cross Hotel design

Provided by notable furniture in Cambodia construction materials, a joined venture between architects John Mills, James Warren, and Emily Reich, the presented interior was part of Southern Cross Hotel. The main objective in the renovation was to provide both new and old clients a sense of home.

"We wanted to create interiors with the comfort and detail that a private house might have," said Warren. "The central space that greets visitors, for example, has a variety of chairs, a large feature ceiling representing traditional Pacific woven ceilings, and a chandelier hanging alongside this. Everywhere you look something different catches the eye."

"Basic materials such as brass, timber, vinyl and rock predominate in the fit-out. These down-to-earth materials make patrons feel at ease, and are also low maintenance," stated Warren. "Colour also links the interiors – subtle color accents wash through the spaces, with reds, oranges, and greens used extensively."

"Artworks on most walls, generous outdoor spaces, fireplaces, cafĂ©-type seating and private niche spaces all offer something different," he added. "Given the hotel's current patronage – from the old-timers, to the fresh young things – the Southern Cross' iconic reputation is only likely to gain momentum over the coming years."

This project carries with it a responsibility for bringing people to the water's edge, and a lot of planning has gone into creating a public domain," Woodland said. "On such a beautiful site, the visual character of the building is particularly important. It can be seen from all around the harbor and from the town."

"And, because the center is so visible from the harbor, we wanted to create an undulating form that relates to the undulations of the land behind the town. The folded shape of the building is designed to loosely follow the silhouette of the local topography," added Woodland.
