materials, designed by Steve Woodland, this grand-scale building is the Albany Entertainment
Centre. It helps initiate the link of the city to the harbor.
"With this complex, for the first time the city is reaching out to
the harbor, and the theatre is the focal point for reuniting the two sectors.
This project carries with it a responsibility for bringing people to the
water's edge, and a lot of planning has gone into creating a public
domain," Woodland said. "On such a beautiful site, the visual character
of the building is particularly important. It can be seen from all around the harbor
and from the town."
"And, because the center is so visible from the harbor, we wanted
to create an undulating form that relates to the undulations of the land behind
the town. The folded shape of the building is designed to loosely follow the
silhouette of the local topography," added Woodland.
