"I wanted a traditional, wide-open, kitchen that would work well
for children, dogs and our busy family life," owner of the featured
kitchen said about its remodeled concept, as successful furniture

McFarlane was the one who took up the project. McFarlane preserved much of the
house’s design pieces including the antique chandelier and old-style cabinetry.
The hearth was also kept but with a slight alteration.
"With a steeply sloping ceiling above it, the hearth needed to be
anchored in the kitchen, so it didn't look lost.
We did this by taking the
mantelpiece up to the height of the balcony,"
