As successful furniture
shop in Cambodia construction
materials informed, with restless repeats of renovations, the
beach house and featured dining area finally met owner’s expectation of flow
and functionality under Cheryl Hamilton-Gray’s design.
"Accessed by a single door, the old, peninsula-style
kitchen had felt cramped, so we started by revising all the spaces on the
second level with a view to creating one large room. As part of this, we opened
up the kitchen, and framed it with posts and beams, in line with the existing
style of construction. And although the owners had initially wanted to demolish
the fireplace, a stucco finish has given it a new lease of life. This corner of
the room now looks much brighter, and we have created a dining area in front of
it."
"We specified paneled cabinetry
in quarter-sawn white oak," Hamilton-Gray added. "This has been
distressed, wire-brushed and stained to match the ceiling beams and adobe
style. The new island is now a focal point of the kitchen, its arched alcoves
and stucco frame adding to the overall look. The custom hood is also finished
in plaster."
