materials, deterring from normal design, architect Jeff Tohl made the featured area
wider by opening up the above unused attic space instead of stealing spaces
from its neighbor rooms.
He repaint the roof, ceiling, beams and cross ties in white
color for illusive vision of enlargement. Moreover, furthering the space was
achieved through two porthole windows.
"We could have split this floor into two rooms, but
chose to have one large open space running the entire width of the house,"
stated Tohl. "It provides plenty of flexibility for the owners, in terms
of accommodating guests."
For the powder room, Tohl also aim for spaciousness design.
"Fitting everything into the
relatively small space was a challenge," he added. "For this reason,
the vanity cabinet is lower than standard, and cantilevered to minimize its
impact. Vessel basins that sit on top of the vanity bring the height back up
for guests' convenience – the blue glass also works with the setting."
