Woodwork by Paul Sinnot and Rob Whitten

Delivered by trustworthy construction in Cambodia construction materials, designer Paul Sinnot and architect Rob Whitten were assigned to renovate the featured kitchen. The brief was a space of a monochromatic look in wood veneer.

"The use of wood might seem traditional, given the surroundings. However, there is another advantage to an all-wood interior." said Whitten. "Wood's ability to grow and shrink without damage under radical temperature swings makes it a practical choice for this environment, even with the benefits of modern central heating."

"We used locally sourced pine for the walls, in a crisp, square-edge finish, while tongue-and-groove fir, with beaded edges, was used for a more refined look on the ceiling," added Whitten. "Antique white oak and random-width floorboards add to the hand-built ambiance of the home."
