designer Paul Sinnot and architect Rob Whitten were assigned to renovate the
featured kitchen. The brief was a space of a monochromatic look in wood veneer.
"The use of wood
might seem traditional, given the surroundings. However, there is another
advantage to an all-wood interior." said Whitten. "Wood's ability to
grow and shrink without damage under radical temperature swings makes it a
practical choice for this environment, even with the benefits of modern central
heating."
"We used locally
sourced pine for the walls, in a crisp, square-edge finish, while
tongue-and-groove fir, with beaded edges, was used for a more refined look on
the ceiling," added Whitten. "Antique white oak and random-width
floorboards add to the hand-built ambiance of the home."
