As successful furniture
shop in Cambodia construction
materials informed, designer Dana Jones was commissioned to renovate the two-story
seaside house’s bathroom per request of a trend called ‘classic-contemporary’.
"Several elements brought in the traditional aesthetic,
including the wood cabinet that was built by one of the owners and his father,"
Jones said. "Other pieces that contributed to the time-honored feel were
an antique-look mirror, the sconces and a Carrara marble vanity top."
"Similarly, the freestanding tub, most often in a
classic form, was selected for its modern look, which helps it bridge the two
worlds."
"Another element that advances both styles is the
custom-cut sitka spruce fir wall slats."
"The crisp, horizontal lines of the slats call to mind
the traditional shiplap siding often seen on beachside homes. The owners also
wanted a beachy feel for the bathroom, and this old-meets-new wall finish
achieved that."
"To define and protect the vanity area we added a
feature wall in basalt volcanic stone," added Jones. "This material
is repeated on the angled privacy wall at the entry to the space."
