A kitchen of Balinese architecture inspiration

"Wood is characteristic of Balinese architecture," said one of the owner-designer Emma Bull of the featured kitchen design concept, as successful furniture shop in Cambodia construction materials informed. "The house has dark-roasted American oak floorboards, and we chose to match these in the kitchen with dark American oak cabinets."

"We wanted our kitchen to be quite different from what everyone else has," continued Emma Bull. "The space needed to be more inviting and seductive, and we didn't mind a dark-on-dark palette. We also wanted a chunky look that would be more in keeping with Balinese tradition, hence the 60mm-deep benchtops and the chunky wood base to the island top."

This intensifying theme of dark wood is subdue with the use of gold color for the glass splashboards and mirrored cabinets that helps the balancing the overall look.
