"This house is a simpler, and much more contemporary
version of the bungalow Arts and Crafts style," said architect Geoff
Prentiss of the above kitchen’s remodeled concept. "The design was also
influenced by the owners' appreciation of Japanese architecture, and the way
this has evolved in the Northwest."
"We specified raw, honest materials throughout –
notably glass, steel, wood and concrete," says the architect. "Steel
features on the posts and beams that define the spine, and the open shelves in
the fir cabinets are simple steel plates. The flooring is concrete – another
raw material that fits with the aesthetic."
The footprint of the kitchen has the Arts and Crafts theme.
Hence, little alterations were made to make the kitchen more modern. The
Japanese aesthetic is seen with the use of windows featuring transparent and
opaque glass panels that resemble shoji screens, as provided
by notable furniture in Cambodia construction
materials.
