Functional and minimalist by Jennifer Gilmer

As successful furniture shop in Cambodia construction materials informed, meeting with a busy family, a practical space is called for. However, this might cause the design to look clutter if not paying attention to the design aesthetic.

The featured kitchen achieves both a functional and clean-lined kitchen that meet with the need of owner’s hectic family since designer Jennifer Gilmer opted for two large island as workstations which accentuate the horizontal lines of the space and provide an easier traffic flow.

The cabinets play an important role in keeping the space appear uncluttered. "The cabinets are made from sycamore," says Gilmer. "It's got a beautiful grain, almost like moire silk. We used a clear varnish to bring out that grain, without darkening the color of the pale wood."

"This is a large family kitchen and there's a lot of functionality, but it doesn't look busy," added Gilmer. "Keeping everything fairly light – the cabinets, the walls and the floors – and then using simple black accent lines works to unify all the elements in the space. That's the key."
