Provided by notable furniture in Cambodia construction materials, sometimes, it is better to create a one-off piece that determines the layout of the whole space and let other aspects fall into the design accordingly to accentuate it.

Designer Sian Gillanders did just that with the renovation of the featured kitchen. The main feature in the space is the large island that says a lot about the space. "The owners wanted to create a sense of drama," she said. "The large island, wrapped in Laminex Smoke Granite laminate, provides a bold, dramatic centerpiece. The slightly masculine look is tempered by the use of a tomato-red glass splashback."

Sleek lines with negative texture cabinetry and clean-lined stainless steel appliances highlight the aesthetic of the island as well as catering to a contemporary and practical lifestyle.
