A southeast Asian-influenced kitchen design by Julian Woollett

Provided by notable furniture in Cambodia construction materials, per request, designer Julian Woollett was assigned to renovate the featured kitchen whose owners are in love with Southeast Asian architecture and want a tropical resort retreat design.

"We wanted the whole house to open up to the elements," said one of the owners Kris Johnson. "The opening beside the kitchen is 6.5m wide, which allows an easy flow to a covered patio. Honed limestone flooring, which features throughout the house, also flows from the inside to the outside."

"Dark-stained timber also features above and between the white dropped ceiling elements," continued Johnson. "We introduced the dropped ceilings to help define the living and dining areas and the kitchen within the open-plan space."

"We wanted the island to make a strong design statement," stated Johnson. "The marble has mitred edges and the veining all lines up, so it looks as though it is carved from a single stone slab."

"Although the marble provides great visual impact, we wanted something a little more practical for the main work bench, so opted for stainless steel benchtops for the second island," added Johnson.
