designed by Kwongseng
Kiu, the featured kitchen appears larger owing to the use of elongated
horizontal and vertical planes in the space.
"As well as giving an illusion of length to the
kitchen, the dropped ceiling also clearly defines the space within the
open-plan living area," said designer Kwongseng Kiu. "It also allowed
us to install indirect lighting around the edges, which is visually comfortable
to work under. To add sparkle and shine, we installed a shimmering light
fixture that hangs down above the island."
The designer also takes out a wall between the staircase and
kitchen. "As well as making the space seem larger, this created a direct
connection between the staircase and the kitchen. To further this connection,
we used black granite on the bottom step to match the shiny black toekick and
bar stools in the kitchen."
"The teak helps the cabinetry merge with the rest of
the space, which has wooden furniture. The white cabinets have the same level
of shine as the homogenous tiled floors, so there is a visual connection there
too," added Kwongseng Kiu.
